Our Mission

It’s been more than three decades since the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990 to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday activities. While a good deal of progress has been made, antiquated building codes, labyrinthine exceptions, and a general fear of costly retrofitting have often limited the actual, very necessary implementation of accessible facilities to achieve true equity and inclusion for all.

Meanwhile, societal attitudes around DEI continue to expand and involve, often at a faster pace than policy can keep up with. The first statewide legislation mandating universal changing tables only came out in 2015, for instance, and the International Building Code only started requiring universal changing tables in public restrooms in 2024, but in the meantime advocacy groups like Changing Spaces have campaigned on a grassroots and statewide level for more inclusive restroom facilities.

Ascent is the only universal changing table that is assembled and warranty serviced in the United States. It also uses more American-made content than any other universal changing table; most of its parts are manufactured in the USA, with limited imported components. Ascent's stainless steel shroud is manufactured right in our home state of Ohio, while the vacuum formed tray comes from nearby Upstate New York. This not only ensures that Ascent is more sustainable than its competitors, but also that it usually ships within a week from our warehouse, and replacement parts are readily available in the unlikely event it needs to be serviced.
