It's more than a changing table

It's a welcome sign

People with disabilities and their caregivers often encounter unimaginable challenges while out in public, even when it comes to something as basic as using the bathroom.

Imagine entering an establishment that actually accommodates your unique needs. Imagine how welcome you would feel.

Our Mission

It’s been more than three decades since the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990 to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities in everyday activities. While a good deal of progress has been made, antiquated building codes, labyrinthine exceptions, and a general fear of costly retrofitting have often limited the actual, very necessary implementation of accessible facilities to achieve true equity and inclusion for all.

Meanwhile, societal attitudes around DEI continue to expand and involve, often at a faster pace than policy can keep up with. The first statewide legislation mandating universal changing tables only came out in 2015, for instance, and the International Building Code only started requiring universal changing tables in public restrooms in 2024, but in the meantime advocacy groups like Changing Spaces have campaigned on a grassroots and statewide level for more inclusive restroom facilities.

In the U.S., it's estimated that:

25%

of adults report having some sort of disability

12.1%

of Americans have disabilities relating to mobility

7.2%

of Americans report difficulty with independent living

3.6%

struggle with self-care (including dressing, bathing, and toileting)

Responding to the distinct needs of users, caregivers, architects, and builders, Ascent was engineered for ease-of-use, low-cost assembly, and simple maintenance. From its sleek, smooth changing tray, to its intuitive buttons, to its simple, low-cost installation, it makes inclusive restrooms more accessible for all.

Easy to use, easy to install and maintain

Foundations believes everyone should have safe, dignified access to restroom facilities, and that universal changing tables are an essential step toward inclusion and equality that can transform the lives of millions of Americans with limited mobility or who need help with daily self-care.

While most universal changing tables are designed for medical facilities and for use by professionals with certifications or training, we wanted to create a height-adjustable product that is easy to use, easy to install and maintain, and comfortable for both users and caregivers. The result is our innovative Ascent Universal Changing Table.
