Foundations is excited to introduce a new Continuing Education Unit (CEU) course registered with the American Institute of Architects (AIA)!
Titled “Understanding and Implementing Universal Changing Tables in Architectural Design,” the course delves into the evolution of accessible restrooms and highlights the growing importance of height-adjustable universal (or adult) changing tables. It educates architects on the need for inclusive restroom design to serve individuals of all abilities in public spaces and provides one learning unit in Health, Safety, and Welfare.
The course objectives of our CEU are:
- Understand the importance of accessibility in public washroom spaces and how its implementation has changed over time.
- Discover the increasing prominence of adult changing tables in public washrooms, and the subsequent benefit to the disability community through more inclusive of public spaces.
- Learn about the various forms and functions of adult changing tables and how their design impacts the built environment and those utilizing these spaces.
- Better discern the changing codes and standards for integrating adult changing tables into accessible public washroom design, along with recent requirements for addition to new buildings.
This course is accepted by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Interior Designers Association (IIDA), the International Design Continuing Education Council Inc. (IDCEC), and Interior Designers of Canada (IDC). It has also been approved by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) and satisfies its requirements for LEED, SITES, and WELL General CE hours. The course was designed in conjunction with AEC Daily Corporation, a registered provider of AIA-approved continuing education.
The course highlights the critical role universal changing table design and evolving building codes play in enhancing accessibility for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, ultimately improving their quality of life.
Our CEU is available both online in on-demand format and as an in-person or virtual lunch and learn. Sign up for the online version or email us at ascent@foundations.com to schedule either a live virtual or in-person lunch and learn.
